Clothing
Temperatures in Finland can fall as low as -35oC; the terrain is often hazardous and ground conditions can sometimes be difficult. We recommend good quality wind/rain outer wear; strong walking shoes or boots, gloves, hats and sufficient varied clothes to enable you to "layer up". If you are in any doubt about what to take, then please contact us. Please check the Blog for the latest advise.
General clothes advise:
- Hiring clothes in Lapland works out at excellent value - €12 per day including boots. Please let us know if you would like to hire clothes and we will see if we can prebook.
- Excursions will include the necessary clothes hire (more details on excursions to follow soon).
- Layers of clothes are brilliant for staying warm. They trap the air and keep you cosy.
- Thermals might not be very fashionable, but even thin thermals are a big help to keeping warm.
- Jeans are actually quite poor in the cold.
- Decent grips are pretty essential.
Clothes advise for different times:
-
Travel
We suggest something like the following so you are comfortable while travelling:- Jeans/ trousers
- Scarf
- Gloves or mitts
- Boots with some grip
- Warm winter coat
-
Moving around the Kakslauttanen
- We think the best solution is to hire clothes. (€12 per day including boots)
- Otherwise, thermals are good for adding layers.
- Don't worry about not being warm enough - if you need more layers, you can always hire while you are out there.
-
Excursions
- Excursions will include the gear that you need for the excursions (e.g. warm clothes) so you don’t need to worry about these.
-
The Wedding itself:
- Ideally - we would like people to be smart and warm (preferably not jeans)
- Footwear with good grips.
-
The reception after the wedding:
- The reception is in the main building and will be warm and cosy.
- Ideally smart
- Less need for layers
- Chance to swap your boots for shoes and lose your coats.
